Love spoons

The Welsh custom of lovespoon carving is believed to have evolved from the decoration of wooden cooking or 'cawl' spoons, a tradition which dates back to the 17th century. Folklore tells us that a young man would fashion an intricately carved wooden spoon to present to a girl in the hope of influencing a relationship. Today their use is more diverse and they are created to commemorate a variety of special occasions.
